Broadband on the Go

A leading mobile phone company has discovered that less than half of us are bothered about having access to the internet whilst we are out and about away from home.

Although the number of people who want broadband on the go has risen since last year, there are still only 44 per cent of the 2000 people questioned who believe that we should have access to the internet anywhere in the UK. This means that there are 56 per cent of people who seem to be happy with the current situation which is to be unconnected whilst on the move.

The 2000 polled were also asked to name the locations that they would like to have mobile broadband internet working. Out of those, 44 per cent said that they would like to have access to the internet whilst they were out in their back garden, 32 per cent said they would choose their holiday destination and 8 per cent of people said that they would want it working in their local pub.

The leading mobile phone company have said that they are finding more and more of their customers are internet fans, stating that one in four of their new customers is a mobile broadband customer.

The company have said that the popularity of mobile internet is rising and that it is now beginning to hit the mainstream. They have customers who want to be able to be connected whilst they are in their garden, at the office or in the park and the mobile phone packages they offer are enabling people to do just that.

The company also said that their packages offer good value in a competitive market and they expect to quadruple the amount of mobile internet customers that they have at the moment during 2008.

If you are interested in joining the mobile internet craze then it is perhaps worth looking into prices and you may also want to compare broadband deals to make sure that you are getting the one that is the best for you and your needs.

R10Cipher From Arten Science - Encryption at Its Best

Software doesn't always have to be complicated and, contrary to popular belief, it doesn't always have to be what I categorise as "bloat-ware". Very rarely an application comes along that does exactly what it says on the box.

Most folks with an internet account also have an email account and many of these make use of public mail services such as Google, Yahoo or Hotmail.

While it's great to have access to public services like this, sometimes you want to send information that's a little more sensitive than the rest. Maybe you have started a new bank account and want to have easy access to the new details. Perhaps you want to send confidential information that you need to have centralised access to.

Security suddenly becomes very important and you need to have a way of keeping this safe from prying eyes or unexpected account access.

With this in mind I found myself engaged in a long-term search for an application capable of encrypting text or on the odd occasion a file. The application had to be cross-platform (able to work on a PC as well as a Macintosh), it had to have a small footprint (absolutely not bloat-ware) and it had to be portable (i.e., it would fit on a USB stick).

It took a long time of finding likely products and trying them out only find that they failed the test on some part of my criteria. The most frequent reason for failure was the way some of these programs insisted in spreading code components throughout the operating system (like Ivy crawling up the side of a house). I found it infuriating and quite pointless to see how such a straight forward application could be made to destabilise other programs and take up huge amounts of disk space for such a small return in functionality.

Then I came across R10Cipher, an application that proves 64bit encryption for both plain text and files.

I had missed it in most searches because of the awful name. It may have seemed smart to mimic the company name in the product title (R10Cipher is made by Artenscience) but I still get caught off guard when searching for it my applications or my downloads storage area.

That said the product itself was like a breath of fresh air. It's simple (so simple it doesn't need an installer), it's effective and it's cross-platform. It ticks all the boxes and is easy to use.

As mentioned, there's no installer. On a Windows computer you simply unzip the downloaded archive, create a new R10Cipher folder in Program Files and copy the contents over. Create a shortcut on the desktop and your good to go!

The trail period seems unlimited, though you do have to put up with a "Trial" banner on the desktop while the application is running. The other major selling point is the price, it only costs £18:00 per seat (it's a UK based company) and there are very reasonable rates on volume pricing.

Working R10Cipher couldn't be easier. When you start the application you see a screen with five main areas, though in practice you will probably only use three of them. Perhaps the best way to illustrate it's use is to give an example.

Let's say I have just been working on a staff performance review. I want to send this home to work on later but it's confidential and I don't want any chance of it getting into the wrong hands.

I start by completing the report.

Once completed, I use copy and paste to transfer the text into the "Clear text" window of R10Cipher.

Finally, I add my "Shared Secret". This can be any kind of password or passphrase and you will use it at the "other end" to decrypt your message. As with all passwords, the longer and more complex the better. One feature I liked here was the ability to check the "Show" box so you can make sure that what you thought you had typed matched what actually went in the box. Your encrypted message is no use if you go to decrypt just to find that you slipped on the keyboard and now have no idea what was used for a Shared Secret!

Click on the "Encrypt" button and you are presented with a satisfyingly jumbled collection of gibberish. Now all you do is copy the encrypted gibberish into the body of your email message and send it on it's way. R10Cipher helps again by including a button called "Clipboard", so bypassing the need for copy and paste.

Once you get to your personal account all you have to do is reverse this process by copying the gibberish into the "Cipher Text" window, enter the Shared Secret and click on "Decrypt" to convert the gibberish back to the original text. Simple!

Let's see how R10Cipher handles the old programming favourite "Hello World!".

Unencrypted text = "Hello World!"

Encrypted text = "OmOgL2jSVvaSmPVh"

You can monitor the process of encryption in the "R10Cipher Events Feedback" window, but to be honest the encryption process is so fast that all your likely to see here is "Starting" and "Finished".

The R10Cipher interface includes some helpful functions by way of the toolset at the top of the application. The "Email" button, for example, will start your default email program and place the encrypted text in the message body ready for your to send. You just have to add the Recipient and Subject information.

File encryption is just as straight forward. Just drag and drop the file to encrypt into the "File Encryption Area", provide the Shared Secret and click on the "Batch" button. Your file will be encrypted and the extension ".r10Enc" will be added thereby identifying the file. I'm not so happy with this latter feature because I don't like to identify the file and thereby tell any prospective hacker what application He/She should use to crack the file. I prefer my encrypted content to be completely anonymous. It does appear that, once encrypted, you can remove the file extension and just leave it as an unknown.

If you drag that same unknown file into the "File Encryption Area", provide the Shared Secret and hit "Decrypt File" it does appear that R10Cipher recognises the file as one of it's own, because it asks you to name the file and then dutifully decrypts the contents.

R10Cipher isn't without its little peculiarities. Perhaps the most annoying function is the "Speak" facility. Click on this and your computers speakers will burst into life and read (if possible) the contents of the Clear Text window. While this may prove useful to some, the one thing that caught me each time was the application announcing unexpectedly "Encryption Complete!". I'll admit that it nearly scared me witless the first time it happened. On the Macintosh I have seen instanced where you turn this 'feature' off only to have it carry on announcing regardless.

R10Cipher is clearly a live project for it's developer judging by the number of updates. I have been using this application since version 2.x and it is regularly updated.

The developer/author of R10Cipher, and the owner of Arten Science, is Steve Cholerton. Over the years I have found that Steve is very open to comment and, as with many small development houses, is very hands on. His Artenscience.co.uk website currently sports a certificate from the 2009 UK IT Industry Awards of which R10Cipher was a Technology Excellence finalist.

I have to say that I am not the least bit surprised given what a superb application this is. It should take pride of place in any Internet user's toolbox.

My New Lesson in "Fighting Evil"

We have all sat through the Dirty Harry movies, the Chuck Norris movies, the "Goodguys vs. the Badguys", with the Goodguys usually winning as a result of some heroic act. We Americans grow up watching these stories, we read about similar incidents in storybooks, history books, comic books, even the cartoons show us that in order to fight evil, you must fight it with force.

Well, as a typical American boy, I grew up having learned that "lesson", that you must fight for what you believe in, you must fight evil, you must destroy it, punch it, kick it, shoot it, destroy it in any way possible. During my lifetime, I did what I was capable of - fighting evil in whatever tiny ways I could. In most of my encounters, I could never figure out why the laws and circumstances were always on the side of the Badguys when it came to real life - quite the opposite as in the movies. It's common knowledge that there are, and have always been, problems in the world. There has always been greed, and pathological lust for power; and those who are afflicted by such defects are almost always the ones who aspire to positions of power. There have always been the greedy and the ruthless being in power, while the rest of the subjects survive in any way they can - some such situations being worse than others, but all basically the same. Those who do not succeed at attaining such positions inflict their damage in other ways.

We have had our share of heroes in history, the ones who ride in out of nowhere, annihilate a few Badguys, then ride off into the sunset. More often than not, those brave souls have died in battle. I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with fighting evil if you are cabaple, in fact, I wish there were more such people, especially in today's environment, where lawlessness is a direct result of laws being put in place by those who seek to dominate the world. The sad fact is, though, that it is more difficult nowadays to be such a person, as they will usually end up in court, in jail, or murdered at the hands of some hired nutcase who can, and have been, easily be groomed to be the scapegoat.

All this being said, just recently, I came across an opportunity to volunteer my services at a school/church/orphanage. This is a place where 400 kids live, get schooled, and learn about the life and beliefs of "San Francisco", as he is known here in Peru, or St. Francis, as we Americans know him as. These are kids whose parents cannot take care of them, or who have been abandoned somehow. The conditions at this "Franciscano Capuchino" are dire - especially by American standards. For the record, I'm not giving the actual name of the school, as I don't want this to sound like a solicitation or any sort of advertising.

The buildings are falling apart, the plumbing barely works, there are holes in the roof, and the food is barely enough to keep them from starving to death. They have one source of income, they bake and sell a Peruvian pastry called "Paneton", it's a sweetbread with pieces of fruit mixed in it. Being that I'm new there, and won't actually be starting my sports programs until after the first of the year, I don't know all the details, but I do know this after taking a tour of the place, it is a mess, and the kids have barely enough to survive. Over the years, the school has been able to acquire a few things. They have a woodworking shop, with a small handful of tools, where they teach the students woodworking skills, and they have an automotive shop of sorts, where they teach them basics of auto mechanics. There is a small gym with a few weight machines, three basketball/soccer courts, a cafeteria, classrooms, the sleeping area, and a little store that sells water, sodas, little snacks and a few necessities - for the public to shop at; this brings in a tiny supplement to the income to help with expenses.

With all of this, these kids are learning about life, they are being prepared to live in the reality that is Peru. They are very polite and respectful. They are learning how to survive. What prompted me to talk about this is that I started to think about what I have to offer these unbelievably poor children. I was thinking about the fact that not only will I be teaching them the mechanics of the various sports, but I will teach them sportsmanship, fair play, respect, ethics, and how all of these things relate to real life - it's just the way I do it. Yesterday while I was talking with my wife about all of this, it hit me. After all these years of "fighting", I finally realized that the way for me to (try to) better the world is to teach young people virtues, teach them how to be decent. The full grown adults who lie, cheat, steal, and murder, there is nothing I can do to stop them or change them (people have been telling me this for years, but I never believed it), seems the only thing to do is wait until they are dead and buried, and do my best to replace them with people who have some sense of respect, decency, honesty, and who will respect, and even love, the environment.

What I do at the school will not be so big, there are about 400 kids there, and I will only be working with a few of them - the ones who choose to take part in my sports programs. My wife will be doing something similar, she will be presenting (after the holidays) her ideas about conducting some creative classes. She is looking forward to this every bit as much as I am. This is all very new to me. I'm the guy who has spent most of his life in America, wondering how things got to be so messed up. I could never figure out how there could be such blatant trickery in just about every aspect of society as we know it, and even worse, why people just seemed to be ok with it. When I see Anderson Cooper's programs, showing what humans are capable of - the slaughtering of all the beautiful animals of the world - for their (the humans') greed, their lust, and whatever other strange reasons that I will never understand, I feel such rage and sorrow.

When I see people dying because they don't have food, I feel the same rage, the same sorrow, and horrible sadness. I can't begin to imagine what is must feel like for parents to watch their children die because they could not get enough food to feed them. When I watched that one African boy take his bucket to the sewer to get water for him and his family to drink, well, I guess I don't need to tell you. I have often wondered what happens to the billions of dollars that people from all over the world have donated to "Charities", that are supposed to be feeding and caring for these starving people - with all those billions, why are so many still starving, and still dying so needlessly??

Well, I've spend most of my adult life - besides trying to survive myself - causing myself such grief thinking about these things. Well, now I'm in a third world country, because my wife is Peruvian. I never, in a millions years, thought I'd end up here, but well, I guess the universe is smarter than I am, and maybe now I can be of some good to the world, and maybe I might even learn a thing or two from those poor Indian kids. The new head priest of the School/Orphanage is a friend of my wife, that's how I was introduced to him, and to the school. I'll do what I'm capable of doing for those kids, how ever little it might be. I don't have money to offer them, all I have is me, and the few skills that I have. I hope you will take this in the spirit that it is meant, which is to share with you my new lesson. I've not always been the most together guy, I've been somewhat selfish, and I've often wondered, "What the hell did I do to deserve this???". Hopefully now, I've found a better and more effective way to "fight" evil, I'll keep you posted. Well, goodnight all, talk to you another time.

Search For a Person For Free

Have you ever gotten online to search for a person, address, or phone number of that person? There are many available options and search engines to choose from and almost all of them say they are free people searches.

Well I have found that there are very few that actually give you free search results. I guess they don't lie when they advertise a free search, but very few actually offer a free search along with free results. It is very irritating to get online and search for a person and it brings up names but no information and the sites ask you to pay for the results you want.

I found a search engine here recently called Zabba People Search and I was very impressed with it. I have used several different search engines to search for people, and unfortunately I have even paid to get the results because I needed them at the time. This free person search site I found was a very nice site.

A lot of times when I write reviews on subjects like this I have a couple of downfalls for the subject, but in this case I really don't. The site was very user friendly and it gave me all of the general information I needed for free.

When I hit the search button I was expecting the same situation that has happened in every other free person search engine. I was expecting to get a list of names of all the people in the particular area I was searching and get no other information. To my surprise, all I had to do was sign up and I actually got free results.

Zabba People Search actually offers background checks, searches by phone number, and search by social security number. Although, these services are not free like the general name search they are very affordable and very useful. This site has everything you would need to do a complete free person search, along with a couple of other options that would allow you to go further into the search for a small cost.

Need to find a person fast and do not want to pay for results? If so click here to get free search results! If you are looking for a site similar to the Acme People Search engine I mentioned earlier Click here!

The Science of Satellite Internet

You may have heard of the third option that is satellite Internet. It is often times seen as a welcome alternative to DSL or cable Internet providers. You may know the basic operation of satellite Internet-namely that an orbiting satellite sends signals to your home computer. However, have you ever really stopped to consider the science of satellite Internet and how this technology is possible?

Satellite Internet does not require a phone connection to work, which makes it available throughout the world, whether you live in a suburban neighborhood close to the city or a rural area in the boondocks. Instead, the satellite company uses a satellite dish for two-way data communications. The two-way communication refers to both upload and download; this is what you do whenever you submit or receive text or graphical information. The upload speed measures about 1/10 of the 500 kbps download speed. The speed of satellite Internet connections are comparable to that of terrestrial Internet and far superior to that of dial up.

Two-way satellite Internet includes some important equipment such as a home satellite dish, which measures about 2'x3', two modems (one for uplink and one for downlink) and coaxial cables that help facilitate communication between dish and modem. Now bear in mind that satellite Internet does require a modem for operation. It's just not the same type of modem configuration that traditional DSL, dial up or cable modems use.

Homeowners or apartment dwellers that hope for optimal performance should give their home satellite dish a clear view of the southern sky, since the satellite in orbit will be located over the equator area. This means that satellite Internet may not be available in some cluttered locations that have lots of greenery and other obstructions. For example, some apartment complexes feature lots of trees and plants to complement their garden theme, and may even have sunken levels of landscaped ground. If a clear view of the southern sky is not available, optimal performance from the satellite Internet connection will be difficult.

Two-way satellite Internet will be operating via Internet Protocol multicasting technology. This refers to a process of communication that allows as many as 5,000 channels to be served at the exact same time by one orbiting satellite. The multicasting unit will send data from one point to the next, and onward simultaneously. This data will be transmitted quickly via compressed format. Why? Compression reduces the size of the data and requires less bandwidth. This type of multicasting is not available with terrestrial Internet providers, since they have bandwidth limitations that prevent this colossal of an achievement.

Bear in mind that this article refers to traditional satellite two-way Internet. There are some satellite services that actually offer a sort of hybrid service, where you use a traditional dial-up or cable modem connection for uploading content to the Internet. In this case, the satellite data downlink operates like a terrestrial link, but the satellite is used for transmitting data to your computer, just as you would operate a satellite-based PPV feature. Most companies offer a two-way connection with no need of a cable or dial up connection.

As America's leading satellite internet service provider, Hughes Net delivers broadband speeds up to 50x faster than dial-up. Hughes Net internet service is available anywhere in the contiguous U.S. and with lease options and free standard installation, getting started is easy and affordable.

Run a Reverse Phone Lookup Free With Yahoo!

Most turn to Google first when they are searching for just about anything, but many of the other search engines can be just as valuable when you want to find out who has been calling you. When that mysterious number seems to want to remain a mystery, there are other places you can look. The search engines all look for and index information differently, and that means that one might have something that the other ones did not find or did not display for you.

You can try a general search of Yahoo! to see what comes up. This can work, and this can also leave you with thousands of results that are impossible to go through. You can try putting the number in quotes, or you can try to have a plus sign between the sections of the phone number with no spaces. You could do "555-555-1234", 555+555+1234, or even just 5555551234 to see if any of those combinations come up with something that looks like it might be a match to the number you have in your hands.

When that is not working, or is turning frustrating, you can try to use the advanced search that Yahoo! has to offer. Here you can be very precise about what you want to come up when you add your information. This can be useful when you are searching for something very specific, and that includes telephone numbers. You may get a hit that ends up telling you who owns a number without having to search much further for more information.

If you are having problems with the advanced search, you may have to think that Yahoo! simply doesn't have the information that you need. You can try the general search again, but you probably won't come up with much. Don't let that frustrate you completely in your search for the origin of a phone number, however. Just remember it was a free and good first step in your quest for information. Yahoo! is a great search engine, but like the others there is some information they just can't find (or it just may not be there to find to begin with).

Viral Marketing Tips 101

Viral Marketing Overview

What is viral marketing and how can you use it to build and expand your business?

Viral marketing is a marketing concept designed to market your business, service or product, exponentially, without your involvement, once it's been put in place. One of the earliest viral marketing campaigns on the internet was Hotmail. A pretty successful viral marketing campaign, don't you think? Hotmail's viral marketing campaign was quite simple. They included a little text blurb, with link, at the bottom of every email that was sent from the Hotmail email service that asked people to sign up for their own email account.

Any type of marketing that is designed to encourage people to pass along the message can be considered viral. It's a marketing campaign that grows via word of mouth. Another example that you see used a lot in the internet marketing niche is that of special reports in PDF format or simple software tools that people can use.

Internet marketers even encourage these reports or programs to be passed along by allowing people to "brand" them. In other words, they can include their affiliate links for any product sales that might result from these free viral marketing tools or reports and they will get a commission for each of these sales. Obviously, a monetary incentive like this will motivate people to pass along the software, game, report, etc. to others to check out.

The concept of viral marketing is that if people like the content they will pass it on to their friends and family, whether a cool flash game, funny video, amusing story etc., which one may pass on to another. Included in the viral "product" is information about the company, a specific product, etc., usually with a link to a web site.

Viral marketing has become a popular means of advertising and marketing because it can be a no cost or very low cost way of marketing and when you hit on a winner, like Hotmail, your business can explode almost overnight.

Using Viral Marketing for Your Business

A successful viral marketing campaign will create in instant buzz about your business, not to mention more customers and sales. With a little ingenuity and imagination, plus some incentives or prizes, you can reach out to a great number of people and announce your existence.

All you need is an idea that people would want to pass along to their friends and family.

Telephone Reverse Lookup? The Best Method Available to Search Cell Phone Numbers - Check it Out!

Want to find a way to check who has been calling you? In this short article I will give you some information about using a reverse telephone lookup service and give my recommendation on the best one to use.

Now that large numbers of people use cell phones exclusively lots of people receive more calls from mobile phones than they do from home phones. This makes life more convenient for some and poses difficulties for others. It makes it harder to find out who has called. Telecommunications providers don't reveal their customers readily which gives them a sense of privacy, knowing it is somewhat troublesome to trace who called.

There are times that people come across during life where it is imperative to find who has been called or who has been calling. You know some of them. Mysterious numbers on your mates mobile phone. Numbers you find suspicious on your children's mobile phone bill. Harassing or repetitively annoying calls. The list can go on and on.

Fortunately, there are services that provide reverse telephone lookups. It is really simple when you know where to look. You just type in the number in a search box hit search and find out if the information is available. If the database has access to the report you need then you will be directed on how to retrieve it and it only takes a minute.

You no longer have to question who has called your children or spouse , or who they have been talking to. You can find out quickly by using the power of these huge databases. Reverse Phone Detective has one of the largest. Take action so you will know.

My Third Interview with Jose Caliente

My Third Interview with Jose Caliente by John T. Jones, Ph.D.

Jose Caliente and I met again at the Restaurante Mexicana per usual. I said, "Jose, I think that desperation, confusion, and moronitis have sunk the efficiency of the Congress of the United States of America. The Great Seal of the United States of America creaks whenever a congressman or congress woman walks on it."

Jose said, "There is no such word as moronitis."

I said, "There is jaundice, hepatitis, and now moronitis."

He said, "I know what it means but there is no such word. You can't catch stupidity."

I said, "That's another thing they've got in the Congress, stupiditis."

Jose said, "If you were up culturally, you would not use such words, let alone invent them."

I said, "Jose I've added your new word and my new word to my computer spell-checker dictionary. What I've done, I've done. I'm not much for being socially correct. A lot of the old words that were direct and not confusing have been almost eliminated by the Socially Impaired."

Jose said, "Why don't we go into the restaurant. Maybe you'll cool down."

I said, "That's what the Congress needs to do, COOL DOWN!"

He said, "Let's eat!"

After Jose finished a few beers and his tamales I asked, "How's your new job cleaning the Oval Office?"

"Lost it!"

I was devastated!

My dreams were gone of President Bush accidentally dropping a secret note on the floor or leavening a CIA report on his desk for Jose to pick up and give to me so that I could tell the American people WHAT IS GOING ON!

Jose said, "There was a note left on the President's desk the last night before I got bumped by Mohammad Hussein."

I said, "You got bumped by a Moslem? A Moslem works in the White House?"

Jose said, "Sure! He was hired the day before I was and wanted my job so he bumped me. I clean Vice President Cheney's office now. Same shift."

I said, "Wasn't the President worried about this?"

"About what?"

"About a Moslem cleaning up his office?"

Jose said, "What could he say? The press secretary said that he he looked okay to him."

I gave up. I said, "What about the note?"

Jose handed me the note and this is what it said:

"Daddy, stop taking your self so seriously!

"Stop sleeping in that Commander-in-Chief jacket the military gave you! It gives mama the creeps!

"Stop playing Hail to the Chief over and over again through your Samsung® PO0105 headset when on the treadmill!

"You've got to let up, Daddy, OR--You'll go crazy!"

I said to Jose, "I'm glad the President is at least getting some family support! What about the Congress, Jose? Those knot heads are misusing government! Don't they have an obligation to do what is right for the country?"

Jose said, "You expect too much from the Congress. There is no humility over there so there can be no compromise. You were just hit with that Rx drug plan. You know that they are not only incompetent but that they hate you."

I said, "You found my website and you've been reading my articles, haven't you?"

Jose said, "I though you would be interested in the discarded memo that I found in Cheney's office last night. It was next to the shredder. You catch the check and I'll get it out of my shoe."

I said, "Now, we are getting somewhere!"

In the street Jose gave me the memo. He said, "Don't read it now, IDIOT! Wait until you are in your car."

I was again ecstatic!

A discarded memo that was found in Cheney's office!

It could be about the war.

It could be about the failure of the President's Social Security plan.

It could be about the torture chamber in the White House basement that the President doesn't know about. It could be--

I jumped into my car and read the note. This is what it said:

Gotcha!

The End

10 Ways to Stop Yahoo, MSN, Hotmail, AOL, and EarthLink from Stealing Money from Your Business

How many of you are still using Yahoo, MSN, Hotmail, AOL or EarthLink to send email on behalf of your business? How many of you are actually paying both AOL and EarthLink every month to send email to your prospects and current customers? Did you know that every time you send an email using these services you are literally allowing them to take money away from your business? Please don't get me wrong, I too have used and still use some of these services but I never use them for my business. I use my business email address (jeffb@2thenextlevel.com) for communication, correspondence and marketing. The minute I hit "send," not only do I get to put my company name in someone's email box but I also give them a way to get back to my website for additional information on my company--and the possibility of a sale.

Your email address has become a major form of both marketing and branding. So much so that when you send it out to multiple people in the form of an offer you have for your goods or services your company name could be read by millions. So, why would you allow Yahoo, MSN, Hotmail, AOL or EarthLink to get all the credit. These email services already have millions upon millions of customers. Yet you have been letting them take precious marketing and branding dollars right out of your pocket. Every time you send that email you're giving them a free marketing opportunity to your prospects and customers. Yahoo, MSN, Hotmail, AOL and Earthlink all love it when you decide to start a business and use their email address. It does not matter if you choose a name like mybusinessname@aol.com, you are still giving AOL the ultimate way to market their service.

Ok so now you know what you should not do. Now here are the steps involved in what you should do.

Step 1: Go quickly to a website like proemailaddress.com and register a domain name for your business. If you can't get your exact business name try and get the domain name of what you specialize in: ex. Wesellrestaurants.com, or how your product delivers performance: ex. Thechaindrive.com

Step 2: In doing the search and then registration of a domain name, try your best to get a ".com" name. ".com" is still the most popular and the most recognized. If you cannot get ".com" go for ".net" and last but not least, ".biz".

Step 3: Get an email package that will supply you with at least 5 email addresses to start. Get more if you have more people in your company, but 5 email addresses are enough for most small businesses.

Step 4: The two most important email addresses are yourname@yourbusiness.com and info@yourbusiness.com. yourname@yourbusiness.com should go on every marketing piece you give out. This includes your business card, brochure, letterhead and fax coversheet. Try not to put yourname@yourbusiness.com on your website. Use info@yourbusiness.com for this purpose instead. This info email will be your catch-all email address. This will cut down on the amount of spam you would receive at yourname@yourbusiness.

Step 5: Send a change of email address letter informing all your customers that have been using your old Yahoo, MSN, Hotmail, AOL, and EarthLink that you now have a new email address and the old one will no longer be in use. One of the best ways to do this is to use a service like Plaxo.com. Plaxo.com will help you send out the latest information on you and your business via email.

Step 6: Use the auto response or vacation response feature on your old Yahoo, MSN, Hotmail, AOL, and EarthLink email to inform those that are still sending email to you that you have changed your email address to yourname@yourbusinessname.com Make sure you inform them that they should now use your new yourname@yourbusinessname.com email from now on and that your old email address will only be checked once a week for the next 30 days.

Step 7: Create a signature line at the end of your new yourname@yourbusinessname.com again informing those who had your Yahoo, MSN, Hotmail, AOL, and EarthLink of your new email address and to update their spam filters with the change.

Step 8: If you are having problems in keeping up with your email list and want to send out broadcast emails more efficiently, consider using a third party email distribution service like Constant Contact or Broadcast Email Expert.

Step 9: Use the message on your voicemail to remind those that call you that you now have a new email address and/or website. Give them a choice to leave a message or send an email to your new email address.

Step 10: Finally for those of you who use AOL and EarthLink you may decide to cancel these accounts so you can save money. Since Yahoo, MSN, and Hotmail are free you may decided to keep these accounts--but again you should not use them for business purposes. Keep these email accounts for personal use only, and bring more money to your business by bringing more people to your website using
"yourname@yourbusinessname.com"

Reverse Email Lookup Services

Though reverse phone lookups have been available on the Internet for some time, there has not always been a way to pair an unknown email address with the person behind it. Anyone can go to a number of online phone number search sites and do a reverse lookup with only a phone number. Reverse email lookup services are less well known, and not as complete as a phonebook, even an online one.

There are many reasons for this. People have been known to create accounts and forget the password, or not use it often, especially if they have multiple email accounts. If this account should be compromised in some way, even if you do find out who the owner is, it may not be the current owner. Another issue is people do not register for email accounts with their full names, or even their real names.

Of course, you could always go to your favorite search engine and type in an email address. You may get lucky and get an accurate hit on someone's Amazon profile, or a name on a blog, but again, if they do not associate their real identity with that email address on those sites, you may not get very far.

Do not be discouraged by this however. Email providers such as Hotmail, Yahoo, Lycos, Gmail, Verizon, and others, often have directories for their users. The user, however, does have the option to not be in the directory, and must usually opt-out to do so. So if the person you are looking for is in the directory, problem solved.

If it is not so easy for you, there are companies and groups who offer premium lookups, not just for email, but for phone, and by name. If all you have is an email address though, they can work with that too. The reason they can find it when you cannot? Data mining. They have taken the time and effort and resources to compile information from public sources, sites that have email information as well as relating information to the email owner including phone number, and sometimes address.

Credible premium services for reverse email lookups will let you type in the email address for free, and give you some kind of information related to the person, at times the city and state of residence, or something to let you know that they have a person they've found that is connected with the address. From there, you can choose to buy a fuller report containing identification of the person, and multiple ways to contact or identify them.

Be wary of any service that asks for money up front without any proof that it can deliver what they promise. Always look for a reverse email lookup service that will let you at least type in the email and get some kind of result before committing to payment.
